Show Mr. Randall, member of the banking bank-ing committee of the house, protested against the passage of the Snance bill under the previous question, wnich precluded amendments. Ho desired to amend the bill in committee in two particulars. He wanted to strike out the first and second sections, and to provide that tho redeemed greenbacks green-backs Bhould be cancelled and destroyed. de-stroyed. Ho said Maynard had agreed that those amendments should come before the house. It was deemed deem-ed a political necessity, however, to pass the bill under whip and spur, without amendment or discussion, as the dominant party havo been repudiated repu-diated by the people at the polls, and have determined to make a show of partisan unanimity in congress, and perhaps they are wise in this determination, determi-nation, for "if they do not hang together to-gether they will all hang separattly." |
