Show Suicides. Two Buicides have occurred at Camp Douglas in the last few days The firat was that of a member of the bund, named SchafTor, who was re ported miBaing last Thursday, and whose body was found Saturday in the reservoir from which the Camp Douglas people obtain their water. Tho reixina it not nositivelv known, but the general opinion seems to be that it waB occasioned through his having been too intimately associated with a woman whoBe husband was away and is shortly expected to return. That of the woman seems to be questioned. It docs not appear positively that she did suicide, although al-though the general tendency inclines toauoh a belief. She is said to be the womau with whom Shaffer had associated. On laBt Thursday Shaffer is said to have called on her and told her that Bhe would not see bioi again, from wmch time, up to nis discovery, bis whereabouts had been unknown. The woman, whose name we wore unable to ascertain, was in town here last Saturday, and was taken suddenly ill after her return, "and died on Sunday. It ia said bIio took slrych nine, aud that her motive for the rash i act was the eamo which prompted I Shatter. She was buried on Monday, O po3t mortem examination havine been held, aud apparantly no atepB havine been taken to ascertain the cause of her sudden demise. Circum-1 stances tend strongly to the opinion thataho suicided. Shaffer was buried on Sunday. |
