This company had been in tho habit of bringing a cIufs of emigrants to our shores in violation of the laws of California, and it had interfered withl some of the local commerce along the California coast, which had irritated the people of that state and caused tho legislature to pass a resolution favoring the repeal of the subsidy. -Again, it had been charg-l that the company had sold out its wharves, warehouses, etc.. to men connected with the Central Pacific railroad, which company controlled all the carrying trade of California, ns it owned nil the railroads in the state. |
