Show GRAND GULCH DISTRICT. 1 iSnMial Oifpa'oh to tho Uerald.) . St. George, 29. The miners of thia region send greeting to the friends of mineral development in the more favored districts of the north. That which has been wanting is about to be supplied, and extreme southern Utah and northern Arizona is soon to aid its proportionate quota to tho country's output of precious metals. The great distance from commercial centres, and the want of railroad transportation facilities have retarded the opening and development of the valuable ledges iu this vicinity, but a : change has come. The Utah Southern South-ern is steadily nearing our isolated 1 section, the Iron company's contemplated contem-plated narrow guago is soon to reach the banks ol the Colorado, and the ' knowledge concerning these roads has infused new life into our mining men. 1 Yesterday the Grand Gulch Minintr ! company completed arrangement with Mr. Williams, . of Kiverside, Beaver county, for the erection of a single blast smelter a their copper mme, which is located about fifty miles south of this city. Mr. W. haw contracted to build the Bmelter and have it ready for firing up by the loth of M:y next. Ho has also agreed to build other furnaces as ooon as the company can furnish sufficient ore to justify the outlay. Considerable work ! has been done on the mine recently, 1 and the property is in fino condition. ' Great results are anticipated from this' mine. The owners are confident that they have a good thing. i |
