Show Now Jons P. Huvt, of Michigan, has been nominated for associate justice ol the supreme court of Washington Wash-ington territory. Mr. Iloyt was removed re-moved from the gubernatorial chair of Arizona to make room tor General Fremont, and appointed governor of Idaho. It ia understood that he declined to accent the latter position, and announced hid iuUntioa of remaining re-maining in Arizona and engaging in tbe practice of the law. From the fact that he has been given a judgeship judge-ship in Washington, it is presumed that bo concluded it waj batter to have a eafe thing in tbo way of living than to trust to hia own ability to gain a livelihood, and as he knows himself beat, probably no one will dispute tbe wiedom of the decision. Just what Mr. Hoyt has done that entitles him to so much care and consideration at the hands of Mr. Hayes, nobody appears to know; but as the territorial offices have been thrown at him eo indiscriminately during tbe past two yeare, it is safe to conclude that the administration owes him something, or fears bim. However, How-ever, if bis assignment to Washington Washing-ton territory shall leave honeet old Brayman in the executive chair of Idaho, no one will care much who or what Hoyt has been or is. |
