In the Seward investigation tc-day a question arose as to whether Seward can bo required to tube an oath and testify on a tubf ccna served last night, requiring him to produce certain books, papers and vouchers, alleged to have been taken with him from Sbauhu to Pekiu. His counsel, Merruk, claimed that Euch demand was a plain violation of the constitution constitu-tion and common law, Seward bimg the prosecuted party. Mr. Carpenter contended that Seward must respond to the subecena, and could only plead the personal privilege not to criminate crimi-nate himself.
