Show Not the Man. A day or two ago we mentioned the arrest of a Mr. J. C Vanderbert in Bingham for complicity in the mail robbery in Montiua and stated that he had been taken to Oneida county, Idaho, by order of the court here. He returned to this city yesterday, having been discharged by Detective John B. Furay. The gentleman states that be was unable to learn tor what reason he was arrested or why be was discharged. Deteotive Furay arrested Vanderbert, it is supposed, on the confession of Dewing, the person now lodged in jail in Malad for tbe robbery, but, when he arrived there, Dewing could not be induced to say anything, either that he had accused Vanderbert of complicity or that he had not; nor could Mr. Furay elicit anything from him, and Vanderbert was discharged. dis-charged. He feels that he has been wronged, and claims that he is still ignorant of the cause of bis arrest, so far as official information is concerned. con-cerned. He was bound over by Commissioner Com-missioner Sprague, but was discharged on tbe responsibility of Detective Furay, without having appeared before be-fore any court. |
