Johnston introduced intro-duced a bill amendatory of and supplementary sup-plementary to aid in the construction of the Texas Pacifio Bui I road. It authorizes the company to extend its line from its present western terminus to El Paso, then to unite with the Southern Pacific Kailread. The lands granted to the former are transferred to and vested iu the latter, extending along its portion of the road. Etch company is required to coinpUtu its road within six years. Provision is also made for other railroads to unite with these roads at EL Paso, the object ob-ject being to form lour complete lines to the Pacific from the gulf and South Atlantio states. Edmunds said Ibis bill was so important im-portant that public attention ought to be drawn to its provisions. It involved in-volved not only a grant of power to the Texas Paciho Railroad by name, hut included four or five beparale grants of power to railroads in Texas and Louisiana, authorizing the construction con-struction ol railroads from one point in a state- to another point in the Bamo state.
