Show GALA DAY. July 10th to be tha Firemen's Anniversary Celebration. Everything was propititious for the firemen's celebration, yeeterday, and they were not slow in taking advantage advant-age of the excellence of the weather. Tne Ogden firemen arrived in the morning accompanied by tbeir rriends and were met at the depot by the Salt Lke fie brigade aod from thence eecerted to tbe firemen's hall, followed by tbe lOtb ward braes band. Here a most agreeable sur prise awaited them. When assembled assem-bled in tbe ball, Chief Eugingeer Ottinger arose and in a brief and per tinent address, referred to the fraternal fra-ternal objects of tbe brigade?, and tbe pleasure of having tbe invitation of tbe bome brigade to their Odeo iriends accepted. Tnen in behalf of tbe Salt Lake Brigade, Cniel Ottinger presented to Mr. Keys, chief engineer of the Ogden firemen, an elegantly ornamented silver parade born, emblematic em-blematic of tbeir fraternal relations -ind a reminder of the pleasant occa aion. Chiet Engineer Keys made s fitting reply to tue gift, expressive of the gratitude ot tbe Ogden boys at thw unexpected testimonial of esteem. After this tbe brigades formed to gether, paraded the streets preceded oy the 10th ward bras band, and finally drew up at Fuller's hill, tbe objective point of the day. Here tbe firemen gave themselves them-selves up to the eojoymenls offered, and it is no exaggera tion to say that a better o a lured and well behaved assembly could not very well be found. M.r. Meears gave an exhibition of fancy shooting, hitting thirteen successive bells, and making a score ot eighteen out of a possible twenty-five. Little Littie performed ber ieta, and tbe whole programme, as advertised, was carried out satisfactorily. satis-factorily. Ia the evening about 8 o'clock the torchlight procession formed aoross the road from the engine bouse, and again preceded by tue band, paraded toe streets. They presented a very fine appearance, and crowds everywhere turned out to witness wit-ness tbe procession. Again they marched to Fuller's Hill and tbe remainder of the evening was spent in dancing and general amusements, tbe day's pleasures concluding at 12 o'oiock. The afiair was in every respect financially and as regards enjoyment an unqualified nuocese, all band joining in praising tbe firemen fire-men and tue proprietor of the gardens. So general were tbe remarks of a favorable character that Chief Ottinger Ot-tinger says I he 10tb of July shall hereafter be set apart as tbe firemen's gala day. We congratulate the firemen fire-men on their success, especially so as they took their holiday at home, making it convenient for their friends to visit with them and enjoy the day or evening without incurring any great expense, and for keeping tbeir money at home instead of carrying carry-ing it away. It is a safe assertion that tbe day could not bave been productive of greater enjoyment had it been celebrate I else wn ere, or had it taken twice the amount ot means to insure a success. |
