Show Sherman's Order. Washington, 10. In addition to the other items in Sherman's order, are the following: Fifth Section 2,460 of the Revised Statutes, authorizing the president to employ tbe military torce to prevent tbe felling, cutting down or other destruction of timber of the United States in Florida. Sixth Section 5,287 of tbe Revised Statutea makes it lawful for the i president or such person as be shall empower lor thl purpose, to employ such part of the laud or naval force ot tbe Unittd States, or i-f tbe militia thereof, as shall be necessary to com pel any foreign vis el to depart tbo UniUd State in all ces where, by tbe lawa of tbe nation or treaties of the Uuittd States, sue ouibl not to remain within the United States. Seventh Section 5,297 of the Ro vised statutes, which makes it lawful I for tbe president, in case of insurrection insurrec-tion in any mate against tbe government govern-ment thereof, on applicatiLU of the legislature ol such state or of tbe j executive when the legislature can-' can-' not be convened, to call fiTih such a number of the militia of any other etate or' I states which may be applied for, as he deems sufficient to suppresa such insurrection, in-surrection, or on like application to ! employ for the same purpote such a ! part of tbe land or naval force o l the United States as be deenib necessary, ' and the sections authorizing the president presi-dent to employ troops to eu force laws I Whenever, bv reason of unlawful obstructions or assemblages of per 1 sons or rebellion against tbe authority jol the government ol the United I States, tbe execution .of law ia ob Btructed. Eighth Section 5,577, authorizing tbe president at bis discretion to emplor the land and naval forces ot the United States to protect the rights ol the discoverer ol a guano island, or ot bis widow, heir, executor, exe-cutor, administrator or assigns. Tbe order concludes as follower Officers of the army will not permit tbe use o' troops under their command to aid tbe civil authorities as a postc comitaivs or in the execution execu-tion of laws, except as authorized in tbe foregoing enactments. When 1 applications tor tbe use of troops for tbese purposes are received, they must be forwarded, through a military channel, to the adjutant general for consideration and tne action ot the president. |
