Show City Council. Meeting of the city council .Tuesday evening, Juiy 16tb, 1878, Mayor Little presiding: A petition applying for a license as auctioneer for one year was received from H. A. Reed and granted. The committee 00 streets and alleys, to whom was referred the petition of Wtn, Ridd, reported that a compromise compro-mise bad been efiected between the petitioner and those owuinc the land, thereby rendering unnecessary any action on the part of the council to secure the opening of the streets heretofore here-tofore mentioned, and asking that the previous recommendation ol the committee com-mittee be withdrawn. The report was received and adopted. The committee on public works reported that they had taken under consideration the matter of the compensation com-pensation of Robert Smith regarding the labors performed by him lor the city, and recommended tbat bis wages be fixed at $3 per day. Repo't received re-ceived and adopted. A petition, asking the privilege of occupying, during the pleasure of the "ouncil, a portion of Fifth North street, and offering to pay rental therefor, was received from T. W. Ellerbeck, and the prayer thereof granted. A petition from A. H. Raleigh, asking the privilege of occupying a portion of Fifth North street, was K ran tod on the same conditions as those of the previous grant. The ordinance in relation to water matters was referred to the committee on municipal laws, with the city attorney associated. The committee on irrigation reported re-ported in reference to the matter of water on the east bench, south of the insane asylum, setting forth tbat on August 2Stb, 1S77, a report had been made on a similar petition regarding the water in that locality, and recommended recom-mended that the action of the former committee be approved in this case. The committee to whom was referred re-ferred the petition of Wm. Paul, tendering his services as inspector of buildings, reported recommending that the petition be laid on the table indefinitely. Alderman Raleigh was appointed inspector of buildings for the city. Council adjourned till next Tuesday evening, at 7 o'clock. |
