Show City Council. Meeting of the city council, Tuesday Tues-day evening, Mayor Wells presiding : Petition from Drs. Anderson, Williamson, Wil-liamson, Hamilton, Tagg irt and Young a committee from the Salt Lake medical society representing that the medical profession was the only one in the city which was licensed li-censed or taxed, that the members thereof performed much gratuitous j services in cases of the poor and indigent in-digent sick and public hospital, and that Salt Lake was the only city in the United States in vrhich physicians ; were taxed, and therefore asking that j the law requiring them to pay licences licen-ces be remitted. Referred to the committee on licenses. Petition of J. H. Lingo, asking that his coal delivery wagon licensa lee be remitted, was not granted. Petition of C. Rehmke and others for the privilege of laying a plank walk across Second south street from the foot of Commercial, was granted. Petition of the Deseret Rifle club for the privilege of practiee-s'iontinp: on me Pioneer club grounds, Arsenal hill, was granted under tha same restrictions as were placed upon the last named club. The annual report of the city treasurer for the year ending November 30th, 1S75, was read and relerred to the committee on finance. The report of the city a-iditor for the quarter ending November 30th, 1S75, was also referred to the committee com-mittee on finance. Bill of J. E. Taylor for the burial expenses of James Draystead, an asylum patient who died in the city prison, $20, was referred to the committee com-mittee on claims. The committee on public grounds, to whom was referred the petition of George and Win. Hilton, askincthe privilege of making brick on a piece of laud near the eastern limits of the city, reported that the land in question ques-tion did not belong to the corporation. corpora-tion. The council adjourned till next Tuesday evening at 7 o'clock. |
