Show Great Rattlesnake Convention. Geo. P. Clark and James Bryan returned from tlio Dismal this morning morn-ing where tlioy had been hcrdin? wild cattle, and report the following adventure: Near tho mouth of the Dismal river, about 1-30 miles northwest north-west of Kearny, while riding along they noticed lour or five snakes crawling into a prairie dog hole. Alio circum stance being a little uncommon, one dismounted, and proceeding toward the locality, discovered at least twenty-five twenty-five or thirty about ten yards off. lie immediately began an attack on them and in tho short space of an hour or less, aucceeded in killing one hundred and thirty-eight, besides wounding fiflyor sixty more, which crawled into their holes. Tho gentlemen gentle-men arc willing to be qualified thai the abovo statement is true, and further, fur-ther, that the snakes were killed on a space of ground not to exceed two acres. They saw several more at the samo placo which they did not distill dis-till b. This, we think, bents all the snake stories. Any remarks, gentlemen gentle-men ? Kearny (Neb.) Press. |
