In the United St ites district court to-day, au argument argu-ment was heard on the demurrer to ten of the thirteen counts in an indictment in-dictment charging Gen. John McDonald, McDon-ald, ex-supervisor of internal revenue in this district, with possessing knowledge know-ledge and information of certain violations vio-lations of revenue laws by distillers and rectifiers here, and failing to report re-port to bis superior officer; and also of conspiring with these parties to defraud the government. The de murrer is sustained as to five counts, still leaving eight counts standing ngnintsl tho accused. Two new indictments were returned by the U. S. grand jury to-day, against, it is said, two prominent citizens, . charging them with connection with the whisky rings. The arrests will I probably bo made to-morrow. |
