Show Fires. There were two alarms of fire in the city yesterday, but fortunately the loss in both instances was but slight. The first occurred early in the morning, the roof ot Showell'ssaloon, : Second South street, taking fire from a stove pipe. The flame wag soon extinguished, ex-tinguished, a force pump on the premises being brought into requisition. requisi-tion. Just after dark last evening the county prisoners' cook house, in the rear of the court house, caught fire, and in a short time was burned to the ground. The shanty stcod close to the court house, and for some time that building was in imminent danger. dan-ger. The heat was so intense that the glass in the windows of the latter structure next the fire were broken, and the roof took fire in two or three different places. There was a general ; rush to the scene, and the steamer was run down, but it arrived too late to be of service. The loss will probably proba-bly amount to $150. It is thought by some the fire was the work of an incendiary, in-cendiary, as the jail guard had left the shanty but a few minutes before it was discovered in flames. |
