Show THE VICTORY IN WTOilLNG. People of the Territory don't tako otock in "Foreign" Cfilcials. It always gives us pleasure to h'-ar j go'd news from the Territories, :u;d ; therefore the success of tho Wyoming j Democrats in electing their delegate , to Congress is enjoyable intelligence, lion. W. R. Steele, tho delegate from Wyoming to the present Congress, faithfully served his constituents at j the last session, and, as an evidence of the confi lence and trut which arc I reposed in him by the people they , have elected him as their delegate to I the Forty-fourth Congress by an over-1 over-1 whelming majority, even double that j which he received at his first clec-j clec-j tion. I Ar-ide from the fact ot Mr. Sxcle : being a faithful servant of the people ' there is another reason why be or 'some other actual resident of the ! Territory should havo been elected. ,The Republican candidate was a Judge Carey, a Federal judge, a carpet bagger, which arc sufficient reasons why he should not have been elected, for if there is a class of persons per-sons in the Territories who are thoroughly and completely despised by the people that class is tho men from abroad who occupy the offices; : and no one who has lived for nny length of time in one of the Tcrrito-I Tcrrito-I ries but will say that this universal ; contempt for "foreigners" is merited. In nino cases out of ten these Feder-J Feder-J als do not own fifteen cents' worth of property in tho Territory where they j reside except perhaps the clothes they wear which some of tlicui may ; have paid for and havo neither interest in-terest in tho development of tho country coun-try nor tho welfare of the people. Then- sole inducement for staying is j th-; government salary paid them. Wc 1 will admit that the Federal officials in ' some of the Territories are not looked upon with quite so much disfavor as ! they are in Utah for here wo have I the most despicable gang of government govern-ment officials to be found anywhere but they are no where loved and arc everywhere despised. Hcnco it displayed dis-played considerable "cheek" for Judge Carey to even ask the suffrages ! of the people; but that is easily accounted ac-counted for: a Territorial Ftderal official is never found wanting in tho exhibition of "chc-ek;" that's what gels him the office and keeps him in it; without "cheek" he would not be able to live in a country whero he knew his departure would ba tho occasion oc-casion of merriment and rejoicing. We understand Judge Carey did not resign his judgeship, uot daring to lose . bold of that teat till he got another in his mouth, but as the othor hag no-, been captured he will of course retain the government pap. I n e congratulate me -uemocrais 01 Wyoming on the victory they have .achieved in the election of a genuine ' citizen, and one who, wo believe, will truly represent them, and faithfully and honestly labor for their benefit; and wc congratulate Mr. Stcclo, who I has received euch a token of the con fidence which is reposed in him by the hardy people of our fellow sufferer : in Territorial vassalago. |
