Show HAY DENS' EXPEDITION. Dr. Hayden has arrived at Canon City, after a thorough and important survey of the Elk Mountains. His individual labors have been of the grentest value to science, the geological geolog-ical structure of the range presenting many complications unknown to geology. Close inspection of Sopris Peak, Mount Daley, (named in honor of the American Geological Society), Capitol Peak, Italia Peak, and the valleys of the Gunnison and Slate rivers, reveal fresh mineral and agricultural agri-cultural information that will be of great value to those who contemplate crossing the range. The valley of the Gunnison, from the reports we receive, re-ceive, is undoubtedly the garden spot of Colorado; certainly no grander scenery, no more productive soil has been found west of the Mississippi. The expedition has, in the aggregate, aggre-gate, taken the altitude of and located eight hundred peaks, travelling twelve thousand miles, mapping the geography of the Sangre de Cristo, Elk, Uncompagne, San Juan, Front and Elk-head and Wet ranges. It would be premature, at this time, to state the number of important discoveries discov-eries made; but the discoveries of hot springs, the movement of avalanches, the survey of glacial valleys, and the accurate scientific work by which a new base line has been laid down, will excite an interest rarely characterizing charac-terizing explorations.
