Show j Examination of Cily Books. 1 The "committee of forty-five" have finally got ready aud gone to work to examine, or rather to make copfes of the entries in the city books. Last week, in the Third District Courtt Courtland C. Clements instituted suit against Robert Campbell, City Recorder; Recor-der; and ou Saturday Chief Justice MeKcau issued au alternative mandamus, man-damus, commanding the defendant to appear ou tho lath instant, and how" cause why the mmdauiu should not be made absoluto, and tho defcndaatshould not be compelled to permit copies oi the city records to bo made. The papers were served yesterday, and the arguments are to be made at the appointed time io tho United States Marshal's office. Wc understand the recorder made no objection to the records being examined ex-amined by the plaintiff, but refused to permit the books to be removed from his office or to allow copies to be made of the entries. The case is 0110 in which all are interested. Messrs. Sutherland and Bates and Judge Suow are attorneys for the defendant. |
