Show Tub salb of pews in the new church of the Hoiy Trinity, New York, with tho popular l)r. 8. II. Tyng officiating has returned a very handsome sum. The pews were put up for sale, pretty much alter the fashion of " piols" at a horse race, and the bidding was very spirited. The bidding for the first choice went up to $185, and he selected a pew with a rental fixed at .-?375. Sjme other bidtlers paid $150 for choice and pid $050 for the pews. When the bidding for choice came gradually down to $1, the pews were disponed f for rent.il alone. The sale of pews in little more than an hour's time reached over $50,000. and the premiums pre-miums of choice were between $7,000 and $3,000 more. With an eye strictly strict-ly to business, une half of the rentals were paid in advance. Had such a thing taken place in the Tabernacle in this city, would'nt there have been a howl. |
