Show New Mexico is interested in an important im-portant question in regard to the ownership own-ership of a valuable tract of land containing con-taining rich and extensive mines. As usual, the Indian "policy" ot the present administration is involved. The Western Apache reservation, set apart in the lirt year of the rei-u of Ulysses, eovers a couple nf million acres of land. J t was chosen to accommodate ac-commodate twelve or I'n'Ux-ii hundred nomads; a very pretty huuLing-giound for that number uf lady and gentlemen gentle-men Los! But i I appears that, while this Territory belonged to Mexico, val-...,v.: val-...,v.: mr.rmr mii'ca w ere located, the titlt thereto being soon utter received from the Mexican authorities. This property was sold lu u company, represented rep-resented by a Polish gentietuan.whieh has entered into mining operations thereon on an extended eealo, having expended several thousand dollars lor this purpose. When Ulyes bunirac king, and his Indian policy wan inaugurated, inau-gurated, this twn-inilliou acre Iratt, mines and all, withoit regard to individual indi-vidual claims or rights, was set apart for a reservation. As a consequence, and by direct interference ot Government Govern-ment officers, the copper mines have been closed. The mining company protested in vain, and at hist lum appealed ap-pealed to the courts. Clearly it claim is valid, even as against the high and mighty and most pui.sant commander command-er of all tho faithful; and iLlmnt doubt the courts will so decide. |
