Show White Girls raptured by Indians In-dians Kelakeu. Chicago, 27. Following is an extract ex-tract from an official dispatch of Col. Miles, received at Lieu tenant-General Sheridan's headquarters this morning. morn-ing. It refers to the girls whose rescue from the Indians was announced announ-ced some time ago: "During the fight two white girls were recaptured from the Indians. It appears these sisters, Adelaide and Julia German, aged o and 7 years respectively, were captured cap-tured in Kansas, en route from Georgia to Colorado. They state that tneir father, mother, brother and one sister were murdered, and that they and tw9 older sisters were kept prisoners. They have no positive knowledge of their whereabouts. Their story of woe and suffering is simply too horrible to relate. They j were almost naked and nearly starved, i They are now under the charge of ; Surgeon Waters, and will receive ' every care and attention, and when strong enoueh to endure the journey will be forwarded to Leavenworth. I most earnestly recommend tnat an ample annual provision be made for these children by the government out of the annuity appropriation for the benefit of the Cheyenne Indians." General Pope in forwarding this statement heartily concurs in Colonel Miles' recommendation. |
