Show SKIVMII) AMVE. l"our Bohemians entered West Point on Monday morning in great haste. They being unable to speak English, found an interpreter, to whom they told the following story, for which 'we are indebted to Sherifl Turner: A party of Indians and squaws encamped en-camped near a homesteader's home in Colfax county and sent their squaws to tho house to procure some loot!. The squaws entered the houso and ransacked it for all they could get. The wife of the homesteader home-steader being home, of course objected ob-jected to having all their food taken away, whereupon the squaws turned upon the woman and beat her over the head. Her cries were heard by her husband, who hastened to his house, and on seeing his wife and hearing her cries from sulter-ing, sulter-ing, he took the shot gun and shot one of the squaws. The other squaw reported this to the Indians. In-dians. They returned to the Bohemian's Bo-hemian's house (twelve in number), which they entered and put the man through a terrible torture. They skinned him and then cut his hands off and then took his heart out. All this is supposed to have been done in the presence of his wife, who was suffering from the injuries the she devils had inflicted her with. The scene of this terrible murder was about sixteen miles from West Point, in one corner of Colfax County, Coun-ty, and only five miles from the spot where a farmer was killed by the Winnebagoes while plowing a few years ago. This tragedy took place last Sunday. A party left West Point for the scene ot the horror. The Indians.no doubt, have disappeared, and it will be hard to find them. Fremont H. -,tt,i, Aug. llth, |
