Show A committee appointed by the "Society of the Sons of St. George," in Philadelphia, for the assistance of Englishmen in distress, recently published pub-lished a letter in the London Times stating that the great want of employment em-ployment in the United States has led to the return to Europe of emigrants emi-grants on a large scale. A large proportion pro-portion of the current applicants for relief to that society want assistance to return to England. This applies especially to English artisan?, owing to the general paralysis of manufacturing manufac-turing industry in this country. The committee warns Euglish, working-men working-men against being deluded by adver- j tisements and placards setting forth that workmen are needed in this country, as large numbers of American Amer-ican mechanics and laborers in nearly all of the cities are out of employ, and others are working at reduced wages. |
