Show The National Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church will be . held in New York city on the 6th of October. It will probably be the largest congregation of bishops and clergy ever witnessed in the country. Prior to its meeting a church congress con-gress will be held, under the anspice3 of the clergy, for the alleged purpose of promoting agreement and union among themselves. It is said that a majority of the bishops oppose this independent movement on the ground that it is unnecessary and may interfere with the work of the convention. The clergy, however, are determined to organize the congress, con-gress, claiming that it is their right and privilege to meet as a body of private gentlemen to discuss church topics, and that they do not require Bishop Potter's approval. It is feared by some that this movement may bring about a schism, in the church and a collision in the approaching convention. |
