Show iBy W. U. Telegraph.) CHICAGO POLICE TROVBLE5. Chicago, 30. The police department depart-ment of this city is in an extraordinary muddle. The board of police commissioners commis-sioners day before yesterday suspended superintendent Washburno on charges of neglect of duty, incompetency and disobedience of orders, and appointed an acting superintendent Washburne, backed by tho mayor, deoied the authority of the commissioners to suspend him and attempted to continue to exercise tho duties of his office. Tho captain ol the police will, however, refuse to obey him and will take orders from the acting superintendent. Yes terday tho mayor issued an order removing re-moving two of tho police commissioners, commission-ers, but as they were elected by the people and commissioned by the governor gov-ernor they decline to pay any atteniion to the order. To day it is probablo that the mayor will commence removing the captains, sergeants and patrolmen, who adhere to the board of commissioners. |
