While Stockton is not as lively as we could wish, we eeitainly can see belter times ahead. The Chicago Silver Mining Company's S.MKLTKKS, j Which, I feel safe in saying, arc the! het constructed works of the kind in I'tah, will be in full blast next week. Ore house and office are completed, and add much to the many improvements improve-ments lately constructed in that viei-nitv. viei-nitv. The Carson and Jiuzzo smelters are still running on thou- own ores, a s well as ores from this camp. i-'rnnk McLain is the smelter, and M. E. Smith superintendent. The Watter-inan Watter-inan smellers are being repaired under un-der the charge of Henry Pressor, :uul in another month will probably he complied mid running on ores from the celebrated St. Louis mine, of Dry Canon, which is owned by the Waltermau Company. The Jacobs smelter is still quiet, but 1 learn that the company owning it nrc working some et their, mines in i'rv Cahonand arc taking out fine ore, which gives hopes that the smelter will soon be put in motion. The MINES In this vicinity, as well as in Dry Canon, are generally improving as development progresses. The mineral is mostly galena, which finds a ready market "here at present, and encourages encou-rages the miners to push developments develop-ments vigorously forward. This is as il should be, considering that the many g.-cl prospects here have been slumbering for many years. Many ot the old locations of 'Dry Canon are heim,' worked this season with increased in-creased forces and results. Mam-new Mam-new discoveries promise to even excel the older mines in richness and extent. ex-tent. Quite a number of hardy prospectors pros-pectors have a sure grip on a "stake" in this camp. The Chicago Silver Mining Company's H.Vl.l.llIK- TKAMWAY. Is completed and in motion, with a eapacitv to transport a distance of two and a half miles at the -tato of eight to ten tons per hour. It is s id "to work finely, and will forever for-ever overcome the great trouble of tran.-porling ores out oi the canon, for this company at least. The buckets buck-ets are teel apart and have a eapacitv eap-acitv f l--" pounds each. N hen I visit this gieat improvement 1 will give further descriptions. The Jacobs tramway is at this time lying idle. KUSlt IKE Is the name given to the new town; latelv sprung up one mile and a half south-west of this place, between Carson Car-son it Phuzo's ami the Chicago smelters smelt-ers on the lake in the town. I notice one .-tore and saloon by Mr. Carson, two saloons by Y.
