Show Cokcebt. Last avening on the occasion of the concert givto for the benefit of St. Mark's Uspiul. m large hou greeted the managers of the ec-ttrpriae, ec-ttrpriae, and the house would have been larger, except for the fire that occurred just at the time the doors of the theatre opened. We have not time, or space, nor could we, as we were not present during the the performance of tho first part of the programme, give a separate notice tjf the manner in which each of the amateur ama-teur artistes acquitted themselves, What we beard of the second part of the programme, made us regret that we were not present at the first part. The rendering of the operatic pieceB was as artistically and excellently done :r .u . . , , , . . u we artistes nad been professionals. Indeed we have often heard the same music sung in less excellent style by opera companies of high reputation. The chorus was good, and the leadiog solos were superbly rendered. Miss Gorlinski and Mrs. Hamilton sang soios like prima donnas, the latter especially giving the solo " Stabat Mater" in a style worthy of Parepa Rosa. But to us the most attractive part of tho entertainment was the ballads sung by Mrs. Haydoo, Mrs. Waterbury and Mrs. Hamilton. Theee were given in exquisite style, and called forth enthusiastic applause from the audience. The orchestra was the best we have heard for a long while. Id fine the entire entertainment was an artistic success. |
