Show LETTER 1'BOM PBOVO. Provo City, TJ. T., Sept. 24, 1872. Editors Herald: Quite frequently I see in your valuable valu-able paper, communications from other points in this Territory, but seldom sel-dom correspondence from Provo. This should not be the ease, and if you will give me somo little nook or corner in the best paper published (as the Herald is, I believe, so considered) in Utah Territory, I will ever and anon give you the newa and other items of interest as they ocour here in Provo. True, there are no sensational items to write about at present, but we expect something to happen some day; a "murder most foul," perhaps, or a dog fight To-day I will have to con- , tent myself with describing something j less exciting, for we are out of ' benzine" ben-zine" bere in Provo just now, and the "purps" are peaceable. Business is very dull, but we hope to see the U. S. railroad completed to this point in a couple of months. Then we expect to sec more men of means and vim come in here and put this splendid water power to so rue use. You, Messrs. Editors, doubtless have been here in Provo, and will agree with me when I say that it is a pily to lose all this power. I have heard it rumored that some parties have concluded to build a stamp mi!) or mills here in the spring. Their head is level, as there is no better bet-ter point in Utah for mills than here. The district court commences on Wednesday Dext, judge Strickland presiding; Ira Swartz, as clerk, slings the ink lor tho occasion. To-day you can Ece a broad grin on Ira'a face, aod if you a-k him why he looketh thus so happy, he will take great pleasure in telling you a little tale of domestic bliss; of a Iittlo house, a lovely little wite, and a bouncing boy only a fow hours o.'d. Wo don't wonder that ho looks gay and happy, 1 see advertisements up announcing that the celebrated (?) Dr. Brenan was to have been hero a week or so ago, to deliver his original lectures, and perform per-form miraculous cures ; and I have been told by a man that he came, saw and conquered ; that perhaps two-thirds two-thirds of the women, and a "right Bmart sprinkling " of the men, of this city, had consulted him, and given him fivo or bii huodrcd dollars for his valuable valu-able (?) services. He has gono to Pay son to humbug the denizens thereof. I purposed giving your readers a description of this city, and its advantages advan-tages as a manufacturing point, but I find I have already made this letter too loog. I do not like to impose on good nature, so I will close for the present. Provo. |
