A prominent citizen citi-zen of Cincinnati, who has been spending several days in the Ku Klux region in Kentucky, reports that the country pcx)ple are ready to talk freely free-ly about their troubles. They claim that the trouble's will be stopped by due course of law. One prominent , lawyer stated that he hail no doubt : that there was a large or- ganization of Ku Klux, but manyofthem were respectable citizens citi-zens who had no sympathy with the marauders; and that within ten days a full disclosure would be made of the secrets of the onler, and those who .have repented of it would assist in suppressing it. The idea of martial law is not relished by any one. .The Owen county authorities- say that the murder of the negro Whitestone is the only one which has taken place in their county. Two of those charged with this murder were acquitted at the preliminary examination, ex-amination, and three others escaped from jail a week ago. Though they afterwards gave themselves up to the authorities, declaring that they could prove an nili. Their examination is set for to-morrow, and -it is thought that they will be bound over. The Owen County people assert that all concerned in this outrage are graduates gradu-ates of the federal nrniv. |
