Show FIGHT WITH STAGE BOBBERS. Last week three men entered the store of Sol. Lewis, at Humboldt Wells, and drew their pistols upon him, demanding bis money. Mr. Lewis made hiB eosape and pave the alarm, whereupon the thieves fled. Warrant's were placed io the hands of sheriff Fitch, who immediately dispatched officers of-ficers Gaston, Boardman and another man in pursuit. They got on the right trail, overtaking the robbers near Snake river. As soon as the sheriff's party came within reach it was fired upon from the brush. The officers did not know that they were near the robbers, rob-bers, nor did they see them until they were surprised by tho fire. A battle ensued, in which the sheriff's pos?c had two hon-es killed, while a third broke his pickot aod ran off. The oS-cers oS-cers retreated, keeping op a brisk fire, closely pursued by the robbers, until one of the larter was shot and seen to fail. They then withdrew, carrying oil their wounded oo:arade, and leaving the sheriffs to foot it to Kekon. There were three of the thieves ambushed in willows in the center of a large open flat, near the mouth of Goo:e crook, which erupts into Snake river. They are supposed to be the co panics that robbed the stage running from the Wells to Sprucemont, the day after tho assault on Sol. Lewis. "Kio Independent," |
