Show Tubes and Rain. Much has been published concerning tho planting out of trees and their growth heicg the cause, to a great extent, of drawing rain. And it h;is been asserted that in extraordinarily dry climates, unusual rain falls have been witnessed after the planting out of trees. Our atfontion was directed to this subject recently, and the idea suggested itself that tho hitherto waste land across tho river Jordan might be put to profitable uso, by tho plautiug out of a young, cx-, cx-, teusivo forest, and dravAng all that is needed to mako it available plenty of moisture in the summer season. There are trees which will grow with very lit-tlo lit-tlo moisture; and if tho expected increase in-crease of rain did not omo to make tho adjoining land available for agriculture, agri-culture, forest timber would, in a few years, pay well for the cost of tho land and tho capital invested iu tho trees. Who will try it ? |
