At the oveniug session of tho conservative convention yesterday, resolutions were adopted expressing ex-pressing satisfaction at tho movement of the liberal KepubKcans at Cincinnati, and pledging tho convention to meet their courageous, patriotic proffer of co-operation for the public delivery, in the catholic and magnanimous spirit in which it was tendered. Also that the delegates appointed bv fhiscnnnimn to Baltimore, should give their vigorous, vigor-ous, persistent and united support to the Greeley and Brown ticket nominated nomina-ted at Cincinnati, as holding forth the fairest promise for allaying the passions of war, reviving real peace within our borders, restoring integrity to the public pub-lic service, establishing the States in their legitimate functions in the federal system, and rescuing the public from a despotism of the sword. There were but lew dissenting votes to tho adoption adop-tion of the resolutions. Chicago, 28. The Republicans of the fourth Illinois district nominated general Stephen A. Hurlburt lor congress, con-gress, over John F. Farnsworth, on the Sth ballot. Banyor, Me., 2S. The fifth Maine congressional district Republicans have re nominated Eugene Hale. The delegation del-egation from Waldo county bolted, and will hold an opposition convention at Belfast, on July 16th. and shall named to pass all ores through it to the surface. At a distance dis-tance of 60 feet on the course of this mine westward, winze No. 2 has been sunk to a depth of 10 feet, whero the water also interfered with further economical eco-nomical working, when work was also suspended lor the samo reason as in winze No. 1. The ore lor the full depth ol this incline was found to be a solid mass of same class of galena as that lound in wiczo No. l. SoTeral crots-cuts have been run on this mine, as well with a view of ascertaining the extent ol the mineral, as to open the mine with the design of having the ore as accessible as possible when required tor the smelters. The coarso pursued as mentioned above, has left exposed, and tow ready for stopine, several thousand tons of oro, wh-ch can be taken down and raised to the surface at a cost not exceeding '2 dols. per too whon rc-iuired. Bslhazzar Mine: The expenditure 1 on this mine has been incurred insiok-ini; insiok-ini; a vertical shall 05 feet deep, intending in-tending to ioiem'ft iho loilo on its dip at a depth of 7 j feet. Water, however, has Hopped further progress for ibe Kesent on this shaft, and can only bo 1 resumed when connection is made trom main Ishaft with thia lode. I am very sanguine that tho best, bodis of mineral of the whole property will be found in this mine, on depth being attained; it being from this lode, at and towards the surface, that the highest grades of galena found in the property were taken, leads me to this conclusion. The v cry large tiza of the vein, with its regular dip, gives ample proof of its permanency; and the Balshazzar, like the Red Warrior, which was all iron pyrites at the surface, changed on slight depth being attainclto galena is liable lia-ble to do the same at any moment in the course of its development. Dartmouth Mine: An inclined shaft was started in the month of January latt on this mine and sunk to the depth ot twenty aud a half feet, where work was stopped on aocount of water. The vein looked well ail the distance I sunk on, showing considerable galena I mixed up with the vein stuff, giving I evi.ry evidence of the ncarapproach oi a j larc body of oro. Work was commenced com-menced at the surface on some out-' out-' cropping mineral from which t-ome sixty tons of first-class carbonated ore was raised, when work had to be discontinued discontin-ued on account of tho prevailing storms, there being no housing over the mine. Canoblas iron mine: I havo discontinued discon-tinued work on this mine, not considering consid-ering the ore lit for use as a flux. It boing too highly sllicious to serve as a solvent, where the gangue contained in the oro to be treated, was of the same material as is the case with the ores of the companies mines here. I j have Sfvured a stock of hematito ore from Wyoming Territory. C;diners: ; Of those only two of the number contemplated con-templated have thus far been built. I This is due to the impossibility of ob-I ob-I mining brick fir their construction, the stuck being completely exlmi-ed in this section of the eounuy. It will he some time in tho first paic of June befure brick will be burned to admit of their construction. Tho shareholders seemed well satisfied satis-fied with tho superintendent's report, but some of them were ourious to know why Mr. Brydges Willy ains remained so reticent concerning the mines, seeing he had visited them. |
