Show From Portland. A telegram was received in our city from Portland that that city was "isolated"and almost entirely en-tirely cut off from the outside world. Their grievances appear to be many: Tbey have not had any news by telegraph tele-graph or othetwise for more than three weeks; the steamer has not been able to get up the Columbia river on account of the ice, and was therefore compelled to discharge her cargo at Astoria; the mail stages were unable to carry the mails, on account of the snow in the mountains and the rain and mud in the valleys. Live stock of all kinds; were dying off by the hundreds from starvation. starva-tion. Besides all this, Portland may look for another'02 flood.- How do you like the picture ! Gloomy, ain't it ? Mountaineer. |
