Show DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT VIRGINIA, VIR-GINIA, NEVADA. Abeut 8 o'clock last evening a fire, occasioned by tbe bursting of a coal-oil coal-oil lamp, broko out in the meat market of Jacob Sieffan, on C street, Virginia, and owing to tho combustible nature of the buildings in the vicinity, the spread of the flames was exceedingly rapid. The Fire Department was unusually quick in reporting to tho alarm and getting to work, aud certainly did most effective service iu checking tho progress pro-gress of ihe flames. Washoe Knginc, No. 4, and Young America, No. 2, were both out of servico for painting and repairs, but the hose carriages of each were present, and their companies compan-ies did good work. Chief Maloue was on hand, as usual, and was very energetic ener-getic and efficient. All the boys worked work-ed liko heroes, from "Oue's" to "Six's," and none will object to our saying that old Jim Carter did splendidly, splen-didly, lie worked liko a hero, and made his mark fighting tho flaming foe, particularly at tho north tide of the coull.igration. Jim is a full-blooded fircu.au. There were twelve or fourteen buildings destroyed in all, the burnt district lying between Mill and Carson streets, and extending from C to Llstrcets. St cfl'in's market, Wright's house, just south of it, Dellapnine's store and two dwellings, Jerry Quintan's Quin-tan's Golden Gato boarding hou.e, Lunch & Kimball's meat market, grocery gro-cery and provision store, aod two buildings build-ings owned in Sau. Francisco, were among the property destroyed. The entire loss foots up to about 12,000, and the insurance to but a final! proportion pro-portion of the amount. Gold Hill Netcs, June 10. |
