The Herald prints information relative to the old frauds in the collector's business, most of which were perpetrated at tho time the defaulting Bailey was in office, and say the government was robbed ol $100,000,000 thereby. The United States grand jury it is said, have been investigating allegations against about TOO persons, found indictments indict-ments against 107, and under which anests will be made to-day or to-morrow. It seems that a great deal of perjured testimony was laid before the grand jury in the matter, and that accused ac-cused custom house officials have been endeavoring to divert attention from their cases and havo bills preferred aflainst the offieiils of Johnson's administration. admin-istration. The principal operators in this business in behalf of the custom house have been U. S. commissioner Davenport, and a clerk of the district attorney's office named DeKay.bothoi whom were formerly members of Gen. Butler's staff. The district attorney, Davis, however, has repudiated their, conduct, and has frustrated their plan by ordering them arraigned. 1'he parties will be taken before eommis- sioner White for bail instead of before; Davenport who by sett'ement as per programme was to impose every eviction evic-tion upon the indicted parties. It is stated by the World that general But-' ler has been intrigueing iu bjhaif ol the administration to secure these indictments, indict-ments, and that in his zeal for himself, Butler took a large retainer from the house of Nay lor i Co., in the cause against the government. This is the firm which is charged by agent lie we with large frauds. It is said also that all the indictments found will have to be quashed on account ol" tho political uses which will be made of the grand 'jury.
