Show To Contuiuutous. Wc have re iieivcd receutly several piccesof original poetry, soma of thorn very fair sped moos, whioh we would take pleasure ia publishing but for one th.io.ir they are too lengthy. We do not publish a magazine, nor a journal aiming to bo particularly literary, but a newspaper, for which every communicated articlo, in prose or poetry, should bo briof and pointed. Somo people think, they confer con-fer a favor by lorwardiug lengthy contributions, con-tributions, "to till up." We beg to assure them tho "tilling up" part is not tho trouble, but the "leaving out." There is no day that wo do not throw away enough interesting reading matter mat-ter of different kinds to niako two or tbreo papers. The difficulty docs not ponsUt in getting matter to fill up, but in getting tho rlitht kind and ;o wisely delecting. In a oity of the siao of Salt Lake thcro is difficulty some times in obtaining a sufficient quantity of interesting inter-esting local item; but that h tho only kind of news th:tt is ever scarce. Wo wish t) impress tins f.ict upon contributors: con-tributors: Wc are always glad to receive re-ceive news from ai.y quarter, articles on topics of public interest, and poetry; hut wo wish all to be brief, pointed and iu to re sting. |
