Last night the harbor police, laying in watch for a gang of thieves and burglars who have been depredating on stores on the city front, discovered a party id' Chinamen endeavoring to cut through the floor of a grocery s'.ore from beneath, and a pursuit ensued, lasting for several hours, around and under the wharves. In the pursuit officer Langford shot one of tho thieves in tho abdomen wiih a shot gun. but lost him. Another was captured after he had been shot in the hand with a revolver; the rest escaped. Philip Hodel, a seaman on tho brig Curli'tv, from San Pedro, was lost overboard and drowned off Point . Conception.
