Show The Chastisement inflicted by Commodore Rodgers upon the Coreans will doubtless have a salutory effect on those treacherous and cowardly eenii-barbarians. They have needed some such indication that Americans I and Europeans were not to be murderously murder-ously attacked and killed when circumstances cir-cumstances placed them in the power of Coreans. A few such examples as that which captured their forts and sent them scampering away before vastly inferior numbers, will teach not only the inhabitants of the Corean peninsula to respect the lives of foreigners, especially Americans, but will carry the same lesson to other parts of the vast Chinese empire that may be visited by people from the I United States and European countries. |
