Show U1U COTTONWOOD. lU-iii... 0rij.jn-l.'nei tit. Uera.. Bui C'oTTONwonr Canon, July, 25, U71. J iron Jlcia'd: Considerable dissatisfaction ha been cxprewd among miners in the lower itart of the canon, in regard to one or two of the mining laws us revised at the last meeting, July 3rd. They eiaim that there was not a full representation of the miners at that meeting, it being for tho election of a recorder and not , for the revision ot law. The dis-alis-. lied parties even go -o far as to talk of dividing and making an entirely new district of tho lower part of the canon. This will be very dilHcult to aecom pli.ih as the mnjority here seem to be satieited with the existing law--, and our j worthy recorder, Dr. Hullinger, wouhl j have the support and sympathy of nearly every rna who has had business ! connections with him. The Doctor, S by the way, has sold his hotel to ies.iM. Wilson &. Co., and these gentlemen gen-tlemen intend to establish therein a tirst-class supply store. Still the public pub-lic will only have to wait a few days, as Dr. Hullinger iuforuiB me that he intends to put up another as soon as possible. Silver Springs city is growing quite rapidly, and bids fair to beaome a largo and prosperous mining camp. Tho majority of the locations loca-tions are looking well, and a large number ara being speedily developed. Among other favorable mines now being successfully worked in this district dis-trict may bo mentioned the Beckwith Lode, piluatcd in Honeycomb Gulch. , One of the owners informs mo that they hnvd over 1,100 sacks of urft-clash , high grade- oru on the dump, uwaiting shipment. I w'j- -liowu i In: rrturns of live assays fium Lion mine, I he avcrago being ovor $552 in bil.'jr to the ton. Mr. 0. B. Young has lso made an iniportaut discovery, assay bhowing in addition to silver avaluabie percentage percent-age of gold. This district is rapidly filling up with miners and prospectors from oilier camps, who are attracted hither by the numerous discoveries daily made, in fact, I believe, that with another year's development, Big Cottonwood will prove to be one of the richest mining canons in tho Territory. As an indication indi-cation of our increasing prosperity I would say that we already have four or fivo saioous, and each evening after the toils of tho day, they are filled with hardy minora and prospectors, "log-gists" "log-gists" and "jompists," who congregate there to talk over wentlerful discove-1 rics made and to be made, and to in-1 dulgo moderately in the "Mowing: bowl." Yours truly, CUSTOS MORCM. |
