Show Red Cloud and the Mormons. The dispatches state that Senator Merrill, of Main, and our delegate, lion. W. ll. Hooper, interviewed Red Cloud on Saturday night, in Washington. Red Cloud said there would be no war if the whites waited for the Sioux to commence it. Cap. Hooper told the Chief that the Mormons Mor-mons had never lost a life, or an animal, ani-mal, or a bale of goods in cros-ing the Sioux country until the railroad was built, since which time they had lost some property on the train. Red Cloud expressed the opinion that the Mormons had always talked straight and dealt fairly with bis people, in which the old Ogalallah chief is about correct". |
