Show GE1YERAL. Maine Klcction. New York, Sept. 3. The Tribune this morning says the election in Maine yesterday resulted in a substantial Republican Re-publican victory. We have returns of the vote for (lovoinor from 1 10 tuwes, nearly half of the State', which gives a majority uf -j.U'.'O for Penh am, the Republican candidate for Governor, against the majority for Cham berlain ho-t year. We judge that he is elected by five to seven thousand majority. It may be hazardous to attempt a close calculation as to the majority of the Legislature, which is largely Republican, though the Democrats Demo-crats may have gained some member of the l'louse. and possibly one or two Senators. The people, too, have been votinc mainly for U. S. Senator, the contest being between Governor Chamberlain Cham-berlain and Hon. L. M. Morrill. How that question stands, it is quite impossible im-possible to say at present. R"port. and correspondence Kay that Morrill has the Senate. All our five candidal" j for Coiiltcss are elected, the only srriou- ronte-t bcintr ngain-t Mr. I Lynch, in the - district, who is rr-- elect -d by about twelve hundred majority. |
