Show Cricket. We were indebted to M r. Joseph McEwan, of this office, and Mr. J. Stoddard, of the Wellsville Cricket Club, for the telegrams announcing an-nouncing the progress of the game played on Monday and Tuesday morning, morn-ing, between the Deseret Union club, of this city, and the Wellsville club. The gentlemen from this city went to Brigham City by the cars, where they were met by the gentlemen from Wellsville, who took them through the canon. The game was a very spirited affair, although the wind on Monday afternoon, which blew fiercely, interfered inter-fered with the playing somewhat Not only the members of the Wellsville club, but the citizens generally, and Bishop W. Maughan, showed every attention to the gentlemen from this city. The result of the match was a victory for Wellsville. The innings stood thus : Wellsville first innings runs 4'J ; byes 3: total 52. Second innings runs 111; byes 5: total 110. Making a total for Wellsville of ICS. Deseret Union first innings runs Gl ; wides 6 ; byes 2 ; no call 1 : total TO. Second innings runs 62. Making a total for the Deseret Union of 132. This gave 30 in favor of Wellsville in the two innings. The gentlemen who represented the Wellsville Club are; George Bradshaw, C. Bailey, T. Jessup, G. Parker, Joshua Jos-hua Brown, John Stoddard, John Deakin, John Coburn, John Wyatt, Charles Hawkins, John Thorp. Those representing the Deseret Union Club: A. J. Cushing, J. McEwan M. II. Walker, W. P. Williams, J. Tullidge, J. Piatt s, P. Camomile, J. Hardy, R. Collett, Thos. Home, W. Evans. Umpires of the game: H. McEwan, and Thomas Bradshaw. Scorer;: Messrs. McAboy & Mitten. The return game will be played at this city about the close of Conference. |
