Show OASOLI.VE EXPLOSION AT SAN JOSE. On Monday evening last, says the San Jose Independent of March 3Uth, Mrs. E. L. Tuers, tho milliner, who rpsides on Second street, met with a frighful accident, tho particulars of which, as near as we could learn, being as follows : Having occasion to throw out some of the gasoline that remained in the bottom of the. lamp she used, the stove was selected as the receptacle, there being no fire at the time. Afterwards After-wards she left the room, leaving the cover off the stove, and returned with , a lighted candle. Coming near the stove, the flame from the candle ignited the gas that proceeded from the gasoline, gas-oline, and a terrible explosion at once took place, burning Mrs. Tuers in a frightful manner. Her eye-brows and hair were scorched, and her face otherwise other-wise burned. A gentleman and lady passing at the time were startled by the bright light produced, and immediately imme-diately entered to ascertain the cause, finding Mrs. Tuers in the situation we have described. Her eyes soon after commenced to pain, and at present she is said to be totally unable to see, and it is feared that her sight will be permanently per-manently destroyed. She has been lying ly-ing in great pain ever since the acci-,dent, acci-,dent, watched over by night and day, and the danger may be greater than at first supposed. Her head troubles her exceedingly and augments her suffering. |
