Show THE THANKSGIVING PARTY AT THE TOVVJiSEND HOUSE. We were courteously favored with an invitation to attend the above party, but were prevented by unavoidable circumstances from being present ; and have been kindly furnished with the following concerning it from one of the guests : The above delightful entertainment was a rare treat alike to the votaries at the shrine of Terpsichore and the science sci-ence of gastronomy. Mine Host Townsend deserves the warmest encomiums and thanks of all who participated for the perfect manner man-ner in which all the details of the programme pro-gramme were carried out. The walls of the elegant and commodious commo-dious dancing hall attached to the hotel ho-tel were beautifully.decorated with our national flags displayed in festoons. The hall was resplendent with a blaze of light which lit up the fair faces of the beautiful daughters of Eve pres-i pres-i ent. The genial warmth generated by a peculiar arrangement connected with the heating apparatus served the double dou-ble purpose of keeping the blood at a moderate temperature and imparting a bright and healthy tinge to the countenances coun-tenances of the numerous fair ones. Olsen's band discoursed most beautiful beauti-ful musio and dancing was kept up until the wee hours of the morning. Between the hours of one and two a.m. was devoted to refreshment. Certainly, Cer-tainly, in the whole course of our varied and extensive experience, we cannot remember having enjoyed a supper with greater guto. It was the handiwork handi-work of a chtf dc quisine of no rare pretentions. , Had the renowned "Soyer" himself been the purveyor and manipulator, he could not have done better. The-exercise of dancing had iharpened the appetit"9 of all, and no word cf complaint went forth, but all alike enjoyed the beautiful and sumptuous sump-tuous repast. Our space forbids us stating in detail de-tail the galaxy of beauty present, and we must necessarily omit many names out of the sixty ladies present. Miss B , a charming young lady, wore a white dress with pink panier, and hair beautifully arranged. Three young ladies, sisters, dressed in black, were remarkable for their grace, especially the youngest, a blonde with long flowing golden hair. Mrs. T , a very stylish lady, in a purple moire-antique dresi, trimmed with white satin and point lace. Mrs. B , wore' a plain blue silk dress, without ornaments, which became be-came her. Miss S ;, a pretty young lady, had on a white Swiss dress, plainly trimmed. Mrs. L , was graceful and easy in a plain green silk dress. Mrs. G was resplendent in a white moire-antique bridal dress, with train and black chantilla flounces. Her head dress was a chignon of latest style, with curls in front, sprinkled with diamond powder.. To our mind she was the best dressed lady in the assemblage. Mrs. W tin our humble opinion the belle of the party) gracefully set off a canary-colored silk dress with pearl ornaments. Mrs. H wore an elegant light silk, with long train and chantilla flounces. Her hair was tastefully arranged ar-ranged and powdered. . Miss 1) wore a white Swiss dress with green ctape overskirt. Mrs. Ii was lovely in a long trail dress of the color called ashes of roses, a white overskirt and blue satin trimmings. Mrs V- had on an elegant dress of white silk with pink trimmings. Mrs. H was attired in a white silk dress, beautifully made and exceedingly ex-ceedingly becoming. Mrs. W shone in a ligUt silk dress with cherry trimmings. Mrs. P gave brilliancy to the party in a green silk dress with white over-skirt and scarlet trimmings. Mrs. W wore a lemon-colored Tarlatan silk dress, with silk overskirt of the Bame color. . Mrs. S wore a black silk dress, very plain but fitting well to her fair form. Miss S a very pretty young lady, wag dressed in white with scarlet trimmings. trim-mings. Mrs. P showed to great advantage advan-tage in a white alpaca dress with blue trimmings and pearl ornaments. Mrs. McC wore a blue silk dress and pink trimmings.. Mrs. X wore a green silk dress, with white satin trimmings, which became be-came her exceedingly.
