Show A RICHDEPOSIT. The Xevada Trrtnseript of February 1st has the annexed: L'r. Esmond who has been engaged for a year past in runniru a tunnel under the present bed of the South Yuba River, at Washington, Washing-ton, in this county, has-at last been rewarded re-warded for his untiring industry and ptrseveranie. Having unbounded faith that a rich deposit of gravel was buried beneath the river, he commenced prospecting pros-pecting by sinking a shaft by the edge of the river, about high-water mark, and then running a tunnel, untd he had reached the centre of the stream. L'r. Esmond spent several thousand dollars in the enterprise, and of late has been considerably downcast. Last Friday morning a large boulder ws struck which tided the entire tunnel, and nearly the whole day was consumed in blasting through it. When tne last shot had been tired, and tlie remaining remain-ing fragments of the boulder removed, the sight that presented itself made i heir hearts glad. Xuggets of gold, varying in weight from a bit to an ounce and a half were, plainly to be seen on the bed roek, while a fine body of gravel also showed itself, which has since been prospected and found to be thirty feet wide and six feet high. Forty-six ounces or nearly four pounds of gold were picked up in about a had hour. : |
