Show I LIVE STOCK MATTERS Points or Interest For Utah Cattle and Sheepmen In the letter of George Burke Co of South Omaha and Chicago for the week ending December 2 some very important information is given shippers ship-pers Contrary to the usual custom the communication is of unusual length which may be accounted for by reason that the holiday season is approaching I and the firm wishes its patrons t lbe prepared to take advantage of all conditions con-ditions which prevail Burke Co say that the better feeling feel-ing in the cattle trade which was manifested man-ifested during the previous week was well sustained during the one just closed and that receipts at three leading lead-ing poirs show a marked decrease but foot up about the same as one year ago At Chicago the light and medium weight steers sold well but the heavies dragged sale being dull and weak Values on the English markets have returned to the prices of last year at this time but home figures are from 1 to 125 lower but as there is no excitement ex-citement over the export trade and not enough competition to assist in boosting the market to a higher level this has very little effect on values here November receipts were the lowest low-est in Chicago for nine years Burke Co advance a little Democratic argument ment at this point by saying that the condition of the heaviest meat eaters in the country is surely better than it was and by the heavy meat eaters they mention the laboring classes than it ear or even two ears was one year ago years agoNo improvement in prices of beef cattle is looked for now until after the first oi the year A heavy demand for poultry and game has advanced prices on those commodities until figures have reached a point where it is hardly economy to use either and for this reason the firm anticipates that a demand for beef will b created Cow beef is selling well at good figures prices being 50 cents higher than one year < ago while steers are hard to move a t prices which are 1 lower than at the same period of time I is anticipated that soon the improved times will call for a return to the better grades and that soon steers will be in demand as they were some time ago Offerings of native steers at SOt Omaha were onlymoderate but included includ-ed some medium and heavy weights that were pretty good The demand was sufficient to sustain a good firm feeling but competition was scarcely sharp enough to advance values The stiller buyers lent an effective hand in supporting values on the warmed up steers and the packers firmly backed back-ed the more finished kinds 1350 to 1500 pound steers sold S400JB415 but the bulk of offerings ranging in weight from 900 to 1300 went at 325375 Westerns were in but moderate supply sup-ply and both quality and price were practically the same as for the previous vious week One bunoh of Wyomings weighing 1291 sold at 365 and a bunch of cows out of the same outfit weighing 1033 sold at 310 Receipts of cows were lighter but the demand showed no abatement ana strong to higher prices < was the result re-sult Trade was active aU the week and the close showed an advance of 1015 cents Th bulk of tooth native and westerns sold at 2302SO with 325 tops something e choice at 3IO 325The The run of feeders was also rather light and with the stiller demand eagerly seeking to fill and country buyers constantly on the alert for suitable offerings prices took on a stronger tone and scored a slight ad Vance the close was strong with but few cattle in speculators hands Sellers Sel-lers prospects for the winter appear favorable and it now appears useless for buyers to wait for lower figures There is practically nothing more toe to-e expected from the west and there is too much cheap feed in the country to warrant any expectation of liberal offerings of natives We would repeat re-peat i you want feeders buy them now they will probably cost you more money later and you will have to put a higher priced corn into them Hog receipts a compared with the previous week show quite a decrease at Chicago and Kansas City but a liberal increase at South Omalha Prices fluctuated narrowly still exhibiting ex-hibiting an undertone of strength that only awaits an awakening in the provision pro-vision market to manifest itself in advancing values that is provided it dont keep on raining hogs as i did today Four weeks ago when ribs lard and pork w ° re 15 18 and 30 cents higher hogs sold in practically the same notch they did Saturdaythe bulk at 340 Western slaughterings decreased 35000 as compared with the week before and 100000 as compare with the same week a year ago Exports Ex-ports continue liberal and current home demand is good but still devoid of speculative features The quality of hogs received is very good and their good weights indicate a cessation of disease among them The run of sheep shows a further shrinkage and the market responds with strength The bulk of sales in Chicago were at 250300 for sheep with tops at 345 and at 350 to 425 for lambs with the top at 440 Among the meagre offerings at South Omaha we note the sale of 400 western weth ers average 109 at 270 two decks of western lambs average 65 at 310 and 104 mixed California average 112 at 235 Good muttons are wanted and there are but few of them offered |
