relatives I I here who wll t be sorry to hear of his demise From parties who have just arrived from Tintlc i is learned that the peopl of the various there arous camps are feeling very blue over the outlook and It Is i feared that on account of tha advance in freight rates and treatment charges a number of the mines and mills of the district will b obliged to close down Work Is progressing finely in the development de-velopment of the Overland at Sunshine and large bodies of ore have bcn blocked out In the property that will carry average aver-age milling values of from 5 to S andover and-over in gold to the ton The mine is on a milling basis at the present time but it Js not known how soon a mill will be erected on the property Surveyor Fitzhush who has just re turned front a vIsIt to the mines up near the head of Little Cottonwood canyon states that the Grizziey and the Vahiejo nave good shipments or ore on their dumps which will be marketed as soon as the roads become passable At the present pres-ent time there Is considerable snow at the head of the canyon but below the roads are good The Northern Light Mining company of Lion hill has Just let a contract for S7 000 feet of lumber which will be utilized In the construction of the addition to the tank room at the mill Superintendent Frank HInes writes that both the mine and the mill are doing well and that the outlook for the property Is bright indeed The recent strike mentioned In yesterdays yester-days Herald bps not been fully prospected pros-pected as yet so that it is impossible to state its extent or value The Utah and Montana Machinery corn pan has been awarded the contract for a fl > e steam hoist for the Gold Ridge mine near Baker City Ore In which J E Bamberger Dave Keith and Josiah Barnett of this city are largely interested The hoist will have a sinking capacity of 1000 feet and will include a sinking pump of the best make The boiler will have a capacIty of 60 horsepower while the hoist will run up to 50 horsepower The ulant will cost In the neighborhood of 3000 f o b in this city The directors of the Utah Mining and Development company met Tuesday night in Its oflice In the AVittingham block and besides attending to routine business perfected arrangements for future opera tiois It Is learned that the stock of the company Is being taken In a very satisfactory satis-factory manner and at the rate at which It Is going it will not be long before all will be disposed of that the company cares to let go at the present The company has already secured valuable interests In BIngham Tintic Park City and in various vari-ous other camps W J Lawrence the efficient superintendent superin-tendent of the Star Consolidated mine near Silver City Tintic who has just returned re-turned from a visit to Butte and Anaconda Ana-conda states that all is life and activity in these camps and that the outlook there is good although the ores from the mines there carry low grade values In copper and gold Notwithstanding this the big companies are making money and for the simple reason that they operate on a gigantic gi-gantic scale Mr Lawrence left for the mine last night and he states that the property is looking well with good ore bodies in sight The Star Consolidated was in the market last Saturday with two car loads of good ore and two more lots are now being loaded at the mine Z F Scott has finished his contract for 75 feet of tunnel work in the development develop-ment of the McKinley group on Lion hill and was In the city yesterday making a settlement with the company The tunnel Is being run on what Is called the Kicka Poe vein which Is a spur at right angles from the bis New York fissure In doIng do-Ing this work Mr Scott states that occasional occa-sional bunches of good ore have been encountered en-countered but It Is not expected that an ore body of any size will be uncovered until the intersection of the two veins is reached which will be In about 50 feet more The company will let another contract con-tract within a few days and when the desired connection is made which will beat be-at a considerable depth vertically it is believed that the property will then take rang as a regular producer A contemporary of The Heralds made the statement some time ago that the bond on the Winnamuck mine at Blng ham had been taken up but The Herald Is informed by Colonel J F Woodman one of the owners of the property that this was not the case and that the bond had been pulled down by the Winnamuck company a week or two ago since which time Adolph Berman of New York had been negotiating for a bond on the property prop-erty Mr Borman has been In a measure successful in his efforts and yesterday tho papers for the bond and lease were being made out and now it is the Intention Inten-tion to resume work on the property and it Is stated that Mr Borman will at once put In a big pump and machinery to the extent of 50000 If necessary to operate the mine successfully Colonel Woodman and Colonel Sours are the heavy owners In the company and they believe that Mr Borman and his associates will take up the bond when It becomes due |
