WHAT UNCLE SAM RECEIVES I I Statistics Concerning the Sale of Pub I lie Lands I Washington Feb Commissioner I I Hermann of the general land office has sent to Senator Pcttigrew of South j I I Dakota who is Interested in the free homestead amendment to the Indian I appropriation bill a letter giving some statistics concerning the receipts from the sale of public lands during the ten years ended June 30 last I shows that the cash sales of such lands for the period referred to amounted to S403S772 In addition 3458743 was received ceived In trust for the Indians from the sale of lands ceded by them The receipts re-ceipts from fees and commissions paid on entries and filings and from fees for reducing testimony to writing were 10123538 The expenses Incidental to the disposal of public lands during the I same period amounted to 6910136
