Show FUSION I MINNESOTA Offices Were Divided and Ignatius Ofces Igatu Donnelly Roasted Minneapolis Minn June 15The state conventions of the Democrats Populists and silver Republicans were held here today and fusion was accomplished ac-complished by a compromise The middleofthero element of the Populist Pop-ulist party today led by Ignatius Don nelly nearly accomplished the bolt they had planned The middleofthe roaders showed unexpected strength and attempted to control the Populist convention though they were finally outvoted A committee of seven from each convention to act in joint conference confer-ence with appointed without trouble by both the Democrats and silver Republicans Republi-cans but with the Populists the fric tion was so great that the entire day was consumed in discussion of fusion the antifuslonists threatening to leave the hill During this discussion Sidney l Owen administered to Ignatius Don nelly one of the most scathing arraignments arraign-ments that was ever given to man in public life He accused him of being a traitor to the Peoples party for a money consideration and called him a villain a monster and a vile thing The wildest excitement prevailed Both the Democrats and the silver Republicans endorsed the Chicago platform plat-form and the candidacy of W J Bryan for the presidency The silver Republicans also endorsed the initiative initia-tive and referendum The joint conference i con-ference committee had a lively session and it was agreed to divide the pfflces between the three parties allowing the convention to make the nomina conventon mae tons John Linn the silver Republican who has been a > candidate for governor i twice was endorsed for governor The Populists were allowed the offices of lieutenant governor auditor attorney general and clerk of the supreme court The Democrats were given the nominations nomina-tions of the secreta gven state state treasurer and one of thejudges of the supreme court The joint conference committee recommended that Judges Buck and Canty at present sitting be named by the three parties John Linn was nominated by the three conventions for governor J M Bowles was nominated for lieutenant governor by the Populists and endorsed by the others J J Heinrich for secretary secre-tary of state Alex McKinnin state treasurer Justices Mitchell Canty and Buck for the supreme court bench At a late hour the Populists had not filled them the remaining offices allotted to |
