Show DEMOCRATIC WOMEN Preparing For Active Work In the Coming Campaign CLUB MEETING YESTERDAY Es1 HELD AT THE HOME OF MRS GEORGE W SNOW v The Proposed Alliance With Republican Repub-lican Women to Secure Nominations Nomina-tions of Ladies For the Same Offices Of-fices On Both Tickets An Able Papery M G Wood The Democratic women are preparing for active work during the campaign which will soon open in earnest I the women this year do not get the recognition recogni-tion that they should have It will not be the fault of the leaders who are doing good service not only for their sex bu the party partyTHE THE CLUB MEETS The Womans Democratic club held avery a-very Interesting meeting at the home of Mrs Snow 57 South Seventh East street yesterday afternoon and took Initiatory steps for active campaign work Several representative women were present manifesting man-ifesting a lively interest in the work before be-fore the club The meeting partook of asocial a-social as well as political nature light refreshments wel freshments being served after the business busi-ness before the club was disposed of THE PROPOSED ALLIANCE The first matter of Importance to come up was the action of tho Republican ladies la-dies relative to the forming ot an alliance for effective work but having for Its main object the nomination of women for the same office by the different parties In the field It will be remembered that the Republican Re-publican Womans club some weeks ago appointed a conference committee of three in response to the request of the Democratic Demo-cratic ladies This committee however has not seen fit to confer with their Democratic Dem-ocratic sisters but preferred to place themselves into the hands of the county committee of their party to be guided by its action Of course Messrs Thomas j and Smith and the rest of those who have j no particular use for women In political affairs except to the extent of aiding their own interests did not look upon the proposition prop-osition in a favorable light for under such I an arrangement there might be a possibility possi-bility of a woman being elected which would be distasteful to some of them So the Republican sisters have seen fit to take no action In the matter of meeting the Democratic women preferring to act under direction of the Republican committee com-mittee which said Nay Nay Famine j And so Republican women sent word to the sisters of Democracy that they had decided to take the crumbs handed out by their committee CAMPAIGN WORK CoIPAIGN r Methods of campaign work came In for considerable discussion I was the general gen-eral feeling that the women should be aroused to the importance of participating in the arimaries in order to secure the election of good delegates to the county and state conventions It was felt that In the matter of delegates they would in nowise no-wise be discriminated against by the opposite op-posite sex As the women now havo the franchise they should be accustomed to turing out at the primaries and look aft er their own affairs as well A motion wa made and carried to Issue a address to the women of the Democratic Dnrty urging them to come out to the primaries and setting out the importance of taking tak-ing active part in the work before the conventions meet The women will Insist upon the nomination of clean candidates nominaton and thpy feel that If the members of their sex thl their share of the work this will be done The address will be issued within I with-in the nest few days AN ABLE PAPER When the business part of the pro gramme was disposed of Mrs Wood read I a very able paper on The Life and Administration Ad-ministration of Franklin Pierce The I disquisition was very interesting and a lively discussion followed the participants i 1 1 I dwelling upon the administrative points I of the expresident REFRESHMENTS SERVED I I At the conclusion of the discussion came refreshments after which the club adjourned I ad-journed to hold Its next meeting at the I home of Mrs Wood 518 South West Temple Tem-ple street No date was fixed for this meeting it being subject to call by the I president of the club |
